Herzliya's schools are almost all state (mamlachti) schools run with the municipality. Registration is online, once a year, through the municipal education portal, and new residents and passport holders have one extra step first.
Key dates: 2027-28 is not out yet
When I checked on 9 October 2026, the education portal had not published registration dates for the 2027-28 school year (5788). Use the 2026-27 timetable below as a guide; registration usually opens in January.

The registration FAQ gave 8 February as the gan closing date while the main registration page says 11 February, so check the page when the 2027-28 dates appear (FAQ (נפתח בכרטיסייה חדשה)).
- Children born in 2023 register for the age-3 gan, 2022 for age 4 and 2021 for compulsory age 5 (2026-27 cohorts). You must re-register every year, even if your child already attends a municipal gan (education portal (נפתח בכרטיסייה חדשה)).
- Registration zones are on the municipal GIS map (map (נפתח בכרטיסייה חדשה)). Placement weighs age, address and school zone, the continuing gan, pedagogic factors and gender balance; siblings who are not twins are placed in different gans (same source).
- For secondary school you are placed by registration zone; some city-wide tracks (sport, dance, arts in junior high; special majors in high school) need an application and selection (education portal (נפתח בכרטיסייה חדשה)).
Registering as a new resident or with a passport
Send the education department these documents (Herzliya Municipality (נפתח בכרטיסייה חדשה)):
- a population-registry extract for the child, and both parents' ID cards with the appendix (passports for new olim);
- your lease or purchase contract, and an arnona bill in your name (or a lawyer-signed declaration);
- a release form from your previous local authority, even if your child did not attend gan there (FAQ (נפתח בכרטיסייה חדשה));
- the type of school you want (state, state-religious, special education).
Passport holders send these first; the registration department then opens online registration for them (FAQ (נפתח בכרטיסייה חדשה)). Registration lines: kindergartens 09-9705125/6, elementary and secondary 09-9705217, special education 09-8980942 (Herzliya Municipality (נפתח בכרטיסייה חדשה)).
Afternoons: tzaharonim and Nitzanim
- Gan tzaharonim run after municipal gan until about 16:45, by operators chosen by the municipality: HaOmetz Lihyot, After School (Etgarim 2000) and the Herzliya Community Centres. Payment is spread over 10 months, or 11 with the July camp (1,110 NIS for early registration in 2026). They run in camp format on some holidays, for example 6-10 December 2026 for Hanukkah (education portal (נפתח בכרטיסייה חדשה)). See the tzaharon listing.
- Nitzanim is the Ministry of Education's after-school programme in elementary schools for grades 1-2, Sun-Thu until 16:30 from 1 September to 30 June, with five-day camps at Hanukkah and Pesach. Operators send registration links over the summer (education portal (נפתח בכרטיסייה חדשה)).
What there is
The Ministry of Education lists 322 active institutions in Herzliya: 190 kindergartens, 77 daycares and 39 schools (data.gov.il (נפתח בכרטיסייה חדשה)). State-religious options include the Bar-Ilan and Rambam primary schools, a state-religious boys' secondary school and Ulpanat Tzvia; Haredi options include the Wolfson Talmud Torah and Beit Yaakov (same source). English, French and Russian
- English: Walworth Barbour American International School in Even Yehuda is a private PreK-12 school with an American curriculum and US diploma; school buses serve many areas (WBAIS (נפתח בכרטיסייה חדשה)). Reichman University's international school teaches degrees in English.
- French and Russian: I found no French-language or Russian-language school or programme in Herzliya. The Lia library in Yad HaTisha has Russian books (see the library listing).
- Hebrew support for new-immigrant children: I could not find a published Herzliya programme (a "kids' ulpan" or extra Hebrew hours). Ask the education administration when you register, and the municipal olim unit (נפתח בכרטיסייה חדשה).
